Location, Location, Location. If you want to be at the heart of the action in Cleveland, then this is the hotel to stay at. The building is steeped in history having been built in 1902 and the original, Victorian red-brick and terracotta façade was restored in recent times. It was previously covered by an unsightly, polished granite exterior for several years but the Kimpton brand has added vibrant, boutique sensibilities to proceedings.
You will notice an assortment of plants throughout the building and that is a subtle nod to the founder of the building’s grandson, Levi who was a member of the Arkites. It was an informal gathering of nature aficionados that ultimately led to the creation of the Museum of Natural History. The hotel has a Kimpton Plant Pals Program, where you can request a plant to be placed in your room to make it that much more homely.
With a cosy, free-standing fireplace and the comfiest of sofas, their reception area feels more like a welcoming living room at your best friend’s house. The hotel is also one of the most pet-friendly hotels in town, offering pet treats in the room along with a pet bed and bowls. They’ve even partnered with Wag! so you can find professional pet carers for walks and the like if you are too busy exploring the city.
Room
Kimpton Schofield Hotel offers guest rooms from king size, at a spacious 305 square feet, to an expansive Presidential suite that boasts 1,185 square feet. If you are looking to stay longer, they have fully-furnished apartment-style guest rooms on the Levi level, which come with living and kitchen areas.
You are guaranteed a great night’s sleep with their silky, smooth Frette linen. You’ve got to admire their cheeky sense of humour with a sign on the wall that reads ‘Have you heard about the new corduroy pillows – they’re making headlines’. You’ll also find luxury Atelier Bloem bath amenities – including shampoos that are filled with delightful scents like ylang-ylang, chamomile, orange blossom and oolong tea.
One of the coolest suites you can book is their Van Gogh suite to feel immersed in the artwork of Starry Nights. It was decorated to celebrate the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition back in 2021 and, even though the exhibition has now ended, hotel guests have loved the suite so much, it’s been kept permanently.
Food and drink
A dynamic new restaurant concept, Betts, serves up classic American dishes in a friendly and relaxed environment. Unsurprisingly, they offer TV screens awash with different sporting channels even when you arrive early for breakfast.
Breakfast and weekend brunch are particularly popular with the hotel guests and locals and the signature Bubbie’s board is essentially an assemble-your-own salmon bagel platter. You can customise how many capers or whipped boursin, you want to add on. Other local classics to try include their chicken and waffles and their smoked chicken wings.
Their craft cocktail bar is especially busy during happy hour and they also host a nightly evening wine hour from 5-6pm, offering free glasses of wine, having become a signature of the Kimpton brand. There is also a complimentary morning tea and coffee service in the reception area.

If you are a music fan, your first port of call should be the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame where an eclectic array of artists ranging from Dolly Parton to Def Leppard are celebrated. There are interactive areas like The Garage, where you can pick up any instruments and create your own music magic.
If you are into classical music, a visit to Severance Hall is a must. It’s widely regarded as one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world and you can catch the renowned Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra playing there. They are highly regarded as part of the Big Five in the United States.
One of the most impressive food halls to visit is Heinen’s downtown Cleveland store, situated directly opposite the hotel. There is an extensive supply of local produce and the historic, domed building is the perfect photo-opportunity for visitors to the city.
