Conveniently located just seven miles from central London, The Hilton Syon Park is ideal for time poor Londoners looking for a retreat from the buzz of the city, without having to sacrifice the precious hours of the weekend on travelling. Set within 200 acres of parkland, under the reign of the Duke of Northumberland for 400 years the property hosts 137 spacious, modernly designed guest rooms, many with sizable balconies and terraces.
As well as the sizeable and welcoming mattress that sat proudly in the centre, a certain sparkle varnished across the room and its furnishings, mainly sourced from the impressive, contemporary chandelier hanging over the bed; almost competing for nobility over its mattress counterpart. A cross section of 6 different types of rooms available, guests are able to choose from a King Syon Suite up to a Queen Guest room.
The dynamic hotel describes itself as ‘the perfect balance between city and country; classic and contemporary; formality and fun’. As well as having ‘stunning rooms for private entertaining – perfect for weddings, launches, board meetings, balls and conferences’, catering between 10 to a whopping 700 guests. This was made very much aware over our stay, whilst a large, glamorous Indian celebration was being hosted as well as an intimate wedding the day after, which I was made very quickly aware of whilst being caught on camera in my robe, and slippers en route to the spa downstairs..
In addition to catering for guests looking to get away from their working lives, Hilton Syon Park is a property that hosts an array of corporate facilities, cunningly and conveniently tucked away from other public spaces. Within the property there are 5 flexible and sound proof suites. The Grand Syon Ballroom can accommodate whatever the meeting or event may be, for any occasion. The Duke’s Parlour features a pool table and widescreen HDTV; The Clubhouse can be made exclusive from the remainder of the hotel with access to an impressive 40 bedrooms, a private dining room, a games room and a club house. The Empire a flexible meeting space which can host anywhere between 10 – 70 guests, the Astor catered to host a board meeting in a theatre style and last of all The Grand Syon Ballroom, which is able to host charity balls, corporate events, product launches, weddings, fashion shows and receptions.
Tucked away within the basement of the hotel the Kallima Club and Spa I found to be the most popular of the facilities at the hotel. The elegant spa is described as ‘an oasis of tranquillity for the mind and body, in the idyllic surroundings of the Hilton Syon Park’. And that, ‘on offer is a range of indulgent treatments’. The State of the art gym has the latest generation of cardio and strength training equipment and Hilton fitness that offers personalised fitness tailored to all. I spent my mid-morning and early afternoon in the spa dipping between lazy lengths in the indoor pool, sauna and Jacuzzi, whilst listening to the buzz of an excitable hen party gossiping and laughing in their robes, before retreating to the pre-treatment relaxation room where my therapist was to meet me.
The Kallima Club and Spa takes into account the needs and requirements of every person who steps through their double doors. On arrival I was handed a form to fill out covering the basics that you would expect but also asking you to note of anything further that they are able to tailor your treatment of choice to. Booked in for a full body massage a friendly, and softly spoken women spoken led me to the treatment room. Dimly lit with almost an exotically Asian atmosphere she ensured points of pressure were applied to areas of my back where those all too present knots lie from hours of desk work, which assured the following hour ran like sand from my hands.
Hilton Syon Park is an ever popular hotel which understandably caters for and appeals to a whole spectrum of people. We encountered a huge family gathering in one of the function rooms, an intimate wedding, a hen party as well as the hotel playing host to a popular football team and their wives and girlfriends. With all of this going on the brilliant and attentive service ensured we didn’t at one point feel pushed aside, and were able to enjoy our time discreetly and comfortably.
