If you are looking for a modern, comfortable, and convenient place to stay in Ljubljana, Slovenia’s charming capital city, look no further than NEU Residences. I stayed there with my husband and toddler for three nights and we had a wonderful time exploring this charming and vibrant city from this stylish base.
NEU Residences is located in the heart of Ljubljana, within walking distance of many attractions, restaurants, and shops. This aparthotel offers spacious and chic apartments with fully equipped kitchens, living rooms, and balconies, and also boasts a cosy bar, fitness centre, sauna, and a rooftop terrace with stunning views of the city and the castle.
Hotel
NEU Residences is a four-star aparthotel that opened in 2019 and offers 52 apartments of different sizes and categories, ranging from studios to penthouses. The hotel has a minimalist and elegant design, with a lot of natural light, wood, and greenery.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and they can arrange airport transfers, car rentals, bike rentals, and laundry services. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi, free parking, and a 24-hour reception.
One of the highlights has to be the rooftop terrace, which offers panoramic views of the city and the castle. The terrace has a pool, sun loungers, tables, chairs, and umbrellas, and it is a great spot to enjoy the sunset or the stars.
Room
We stayed in the M Apartment with a castle view, which was spacious, comfortable, and stylish. The apartment had two bedrooms with king-size beds, a living room with a sofa bed, a bathroom with a shower, and large windows offering a view of the castle. It was decorated in a contemporary and minimalist style, with white walls, wooden floors, and colourful accents.
The apartment had everything we needed for a pleasant stay, including a fully equipped kitchen with a fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, and a coffee machine. The apartment also had a smart TV, safe, hairdryer, an iron, and a washing machine and clean and well maintained, while the bed was very comfortable to sleep in after long days exploring the city.
Food and drink
NEU Residences does not have a restaurant, but it has a café/bar called Neubar that serves breakfast and snacks. The breakfast was included in our rate, and it was very good. Neubar had a set menu with limited hot dishes that provided a healthy and nutritious breakfast and the bar also served coffee, tea, juice, and milk.
For lunch and dinner, the hotel does not have a service, but it recommends some nearby restaurants that offer different cuisines and styles. We tried three of them, and we were very satisfied with the food and the service.
The first one was Georgie Bistro, a cosy and modern bistro, located just across the street from the hotel, that serves gourmet Slovenian dishes, such as salads, soups, pasta, risotto, fish, and meat. We had a phenomenal five-course dinner there and truly appreciated the attentive service from knowledgeable staff.
The second restaurant was Gostilna Breg, a traditional and rustic restaurant that serves Slovenian and Balkan dishes, such as grilled meat, sausages, cheese, bread, and wine. The restaurant is located on the banks of the Ljubljanica River within the Old Town. We had a hearty dinner there, and we enjoyed the authentic and tasty food and the lively ambience.
Finally, we dined at Aftr, a trendy and hip restaurant that serves fusion and international dishes, such as burgers, tacos, sushi, and poke bowls. The restaurant is located in the centre of the city, and it has a cool and colourful décor. The restaurant also has a bar that serves cocktails, beers, and wines. We had a fun and casual dinner there, and we liked the creative and delicious food and the friendly service.
To do
Ljubljana is a small but charming city that has a lot to offer to visitors, from a rich history, culture, and architecture, to being surrounded by nature and greenery. The city is also very walkable and bike-friendly, and it has a relaxed and friendly vibe.
We bought the Ljubljana Card, which gave us free access to many attractions, museums, and public transport. The card also gave us discounts on some tours, restaurants, and shops and was very convenient and certainly worth the money as we saved a lot of time and hassle.
One of the ways we used the card was to take a boat tour of the Ljubljanica River, which runs through the city. The boat tour lasted for 45 minutes, and it gave us a different perspective of the city and its landmarks.
Another attraction we utilised from the card was a visit the Ljubljana Castle, which is the most prominent and iconic feature of the city. The castle is located on a hill above the city, and it can be reached by foot or by funicular. We chose to take the funicular, which was fast and easy; it provides a stunning view of the city and the surrounding area, and we took some beautiful photos.
We also explored the Old Town – a charming and picturesque area that has many attractions, such as the Triple Bridge, the Dragon Bridge, the Town Hall, the Cathedral, the Central Market, and the Preseren Square. The Old Town was our favourite part of the city, and we felt the spirit and the charm of Ljubljana here.
In a nutshell
NEU Residences is a great choice for anyone who wants to stay in a modern, comfortable, and convenient aparthotel in Ljubljana. The hotel is ideal for couples, families, and business travellers, as it provides a home away from home in this charming and vibrant city.
