It’s no surprise that New York is a destination on most travel wish lists. A dining and shopping capital of the world, with its five unique boroughs, each offering their own distinct ethos, this trendsetting city offers iconic landmarks, super-high skyscrapers and vibrant culture. Catch a show on Broadway, spend an afternoon trawling the sleek shops on Fifth Avenue or see the city from the towering heights of the Rockefeller building, one thing’s for sure – you’ll never get bored in the Big Apple.
Hotel
When it comes to plush hotels in buzzy NYC, travellers are spoilt for choice, but if you’re looking for a hotel with a difference in this cool, cosmopolitan city, The Roxy ticks the boxes. Nestled in Tribeca, one of the city’s oldest neighbourhoods, the hotel sits amongst cobblestone streets, converted warehouses and iconic architecture offering a visual treat for the eyes, and it’s a stone’s through away from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, cosmopolitan SoHo and the Battery Park ferries to the Statue of Liberty.
The hotel’s name is a nod to the infamous Twenties lower Manhattan movie house, and the electric-lit Roxy sign that greets guests as they enter the building offers a glimpse of the vintage grandeur that runs throughout this fabulous boutique hotel. Guests are greeted with a warm smile and a welcome glass of bubbles upon check-in before being whisked upstairs to the gorgeous rooms which epitomise retro glamour.
Room
The ample sized standard rooms are permeated by Art Deco and Regency touches and offer all the usual amenities and furnishings that you’d expect from an upmarket hotel including tea and coffee making facilities, a bluetooth-enabled Tivoli radio, free bottled water, crisp white bedding, ceiling to floor height windows, a Samsung Smart TV, oh and did we mention the to-die-for minibar that offers everything from pre-made cocktails to chocolate treats?
With fine attention to detail throughout, there are 201 rooms altogether and many offer sublime views of downtown New York. If you want to splash the cash, book the 2,869 square foot Roxy Penthouse which boasts two bedrooms, private access to an exclusive rooftop terrace and sprawling panoramic views. A true slice of heaven!
Food and drink
The open space on the hotel’s ground floor is dedicated to the chilled out Roxy Bar, where you can sink back onto cosy leather sofas, sip a signature cocktail and enjoy some nibbles to a backdrop of live music or expert DJs spinning vinyl.
The coffee bar serves up all the usual caffeine fuel to prep you for a day of sightseeing around the city and the breakfast pancakes are fluffy and dripping in maple syrup, just as you’d expect. The hotel specialises in American classics so burgers and fries are the name of the game here, and there’s also a swanky oyster bar which offers a menu of locally sourced fare.

Where do we start? Music is at the core of The Roxy, with its basement club the Django offering regular jazz evenings to the soulful live beats that permeates the hotel atrium each night, the hotel is a treat for music-lovers. Throw in a cinema streaming retro films after dark, a coffee and cocktail bar, communal spaces where you can sit and soak up the buzz of the hotel, a lounge style restaurant and a fitness centre and there’s not really much more you could ask for.
