Tunisia retreat Le Royal Hammamet Golf Resort has been voted the country’s Best Golf Hotel at the annual World Golf Awards for the second year running – and for fans of the beautiful sport, it’s not hard to see why.
Justly described as “a little piece of paradise on the Mediterranean”, its manicured gardens, sandy beaches and Moorish architecture unite to provide the ultimate hospitality and leisure experience, lying directly on the beautiful blue beach of Yasmine Hammamet.
Just a short hop from the stunning marina nearby, you’ll find the Medina, the Casino, an international cultural centre and two lush architect-designed golf clubs: the Yasmine and the Citrus.
Part of the Le Royal Resorts & Hotels division of General Mediterranean Holding, the international group founded by British entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Nadhmi Auchi, the hotel is truly deserving of Golf tourism’s highest accolade, and the win highlights the group’s commitment to excellence and its determination to become the undisputed market leader.
The resort boasts four gorgeous outdoor swimming pools – two close to the private beach – and a heated covered pool. There are floodlit tennis courts and plenty of other activities to try, including boccia, water polo, mini golf and archery, plus water sports such as water skiing, banana boat and jet ski.
Visitors can also organise overland tours by camel, horse or 4×4, while kids will have a great time at the Fun Club and amusement arcade. After a hard day’s golf or sunbathing, the Shehrayar Nightclub is guaranteed to keep the adults entertained into the early hours, then to help you relax after all your exertion, the beautiful Royal Med Spa offers first-class treatments and cures such as massages, body wraps and facials, and also offers a gorgeous heated swimming pool, a Turkish bath, a well-equipped fitness centre and a hair salon.
The formal announcement of Le Royal Hammamet’s win and presentations of all of the 2015 World Golf Awards took place last weekend 7th-9th November at the Conrad Algarve, Portugal. The ceremony on Saturday formed the centrepiece of a jam-packed three-day event, which afforded guests a chance to enjoy some of the world-class facilities on offer at the famous Quinta do Lago Resort. Everything from a chauffeur-driven airport pick-up to a full 18 holes of golf on both the Friday and Saturday was included in the weekend package, and among the highlights was a chance to play on the newly renovated North Course – a challenge for golfers of all standards set in a stunning natural woodland setting of pine, gorse, heather and wild flowers.
Votes for the World Golf Awards had been cast throughout the year by leading golf tourism professionals from around the world, as well as by hundreds of thousands of consumers in more than 100 different countries.
The annual ceremony serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations, and the 2015 Awards focused on the leading 130 nations who are shaping the future of this dynamic industry. An estimated 60 million visits took place this year to the 32,000 golf courses and resorts worldwide.
