The St. Regis Beijing has launched an exclusive St. Regis Aficionado art tour of the ancient city for guests with renowned British art expert and Beijing resident Tom Pattinson. Home to the 60-year-old 798 Art District and China’s first private contemporary art gallery, Beijing is a haven for those who want to indulge in their passions for art and culture.
Founder of SURGE Art Tom Pattinson brings his wealth of artistic experience as former editor-in-chief of Time Out Beijing, and curator of many leading exhibitions, and is inviting St. Regis Beijing guests to join him on this rare insider art immersion.
Beginning at the St. Regis Beijing, the tour firstly visits Red Gate Gallery. Located in a 15th century watchtower, the gallery represents 20 artists and showcases monthly exhibitions. Guests have the opportunity to meet with the gallery’s founder and director, to hear about the history of China’s first private contemporary art gallery.
Tom then whisks guests to the 798 Art District before personally introducing them to curators and gallery directors, who explore the exhibitions in major galleries including the Long March Space, Gallery Yang and the Ullens Centre of Contemporary Art. After a private lunch, nearby artists welcome guests to their studios in nearby art communities where they explain thoughts and ideas behind their works.
