Review: Hawkes Point Luxury Apartments, St Ives in Cornwall

By Caroline Cooper   |

Carbis Bay is a tree lined cove with a perfect sandy beach and unrestricted views of St.Ives harbour and Gwithian sands. On a glorious summer’s day, it’s hard not to mistake this peaceful spot for the Italian coastline. However, the fantastic beach aside, it was our incredible accommodation, Hawkes Point, that made this break so incredible!

Going away on holiday as a young family can often be overwhelming for the most organised of people. The endless list of essentials you need to pack ‘just in case’ usually means that you and your partner are left a small backpack crammed with mismatched clothes.

However, thanks to the family run Hawkes Point which consists of 11 apartments and four penthouses, you can leave your home safe in the knowledge that everything will be ready and waiting for you upon your arrival.

Carbis Bay is the ideal spot for a relaxing Cornwall holiday

From initial booking, to our arrival, everything was seamless and was made so easy. The team were only too happy to help, offering us a range of items we might need to make our trip with our little girl that much easier. From baby monitors to a travel cot and highchair, all were provided for us meaning that for once, I could pack more than two outfits.

The week before our arrival we were sent an information pack consisting of everything we’d need to know, from accessing our apartment to the best places to eat, which was welcomed as I don’t get as much time to research with a 17-month old in tow.

We arrived at Hawkes Point on a bright sunny morning and typed in the security code to the gated carpark. Each apartment has a designated parking spot – which is a luxury in itself especially in this part of the world! We had booked the Penthouse, Wingspan. Which promised open plan living, a spacious living area and a sea view.

The kitchen is well equipped and spacious.

Now, I’d spent many a night ogling at our apartment on instagram and Hawkes Points’ site, eager to get there and take in the fabulous décor and scenery. However, nothing could have prepared us for the sheer scale of the living space or just how amazing it truly is.

The spacious and inviting hallway led to a HUGE living space. With an extra-large and comfy sofa (perfect for a snooze) opposite the large and well-equipped kitchen.

The space is ideal for a group of friends or a large family. It’s the ideal space to host a dinner party or to enjoy cooking as a large group (Christmas sprung to mind)!

The vast, airy, yet homely space, led down to a six-person dining table. The head of the table looked out onto the feature window which gave you unparalleled views of the Atlantic’s turquoise sea.

The dining area has fantastic ocean views.

My husband and I spent many a night with a glass of wine in hand, sat on the cosy seats gazing out to the ocean, watching the rippling of the waves as the sun set.

The décor aside, everything about the apartment felt luxurious. From the ‘welcome’ hamper of scones and pink bubbles, to the Villeroy and Boch crockery and the Orla Kiely toiletries.

There was storage everywhere meaning we could keep our suitcases out of site and really make our three-night stay feel like home (and a very nice one at that).

The extra touches also make this apartment feel like five-star accommodation. One evening, we returned from the beach to find a surprise delivery of local moomaid ice cream, which is located on St. Ives seafront. A lovely little extra!

St Ives has a picturesque and bustling harbour.

Hawkes Point think of anything and everything – it truly is luxury accommodation at its finest. From couples, to friends to families – there’s something for everyone. We can’t wait to return!

Wingspan ranges from £399 (2 nights out of season) up to £1999 for a peak season week stay, and for Horizon the 3-bed penthouse prices range between £475 and £2510.
