Selman Marrakech: Is this Morocco’s most unique luxury hotel?

Selman Marrakech is one of Morocco’s most beautiful hotels, promising views of the majestic Atlas Mountains.

By LLM Reporters   |

At the foot of the dramatic Atlas Mountains stands the elegant palace of Selman Marrakech, rising out of the desert. Renowned Parisian architect Jacques Garcia’s designs will overwhelm you with a sensual welcome, from the 55 stunning rooms, suites and villas to the colonnaded portico entrance and the magnificent 80m pool in the manicured gardens and the hotel’s unique stud farm, home to a private collection of stunning Arabian thoroughbreds.

Selman Marrakech will provide a safe destination for UK travellers in a country with an excellent Covid-19 response, as well as the potential for a private, secluded retreat in one of the hotel’s five luxurious villas.

The entire hotel pays tribute to the elegant Arabian horses that reside in the paddocks and stables. ‘Selman’ was the original sire of a line of purebred horses, and the owners of Selman Marrakech, a Moroccan family, have chosen to recreate this awe-inspiring equine lineage as well as recreate the golden age of Moroccan culture within the property.

Chenot Spa

Chenot Spa at Selman Marrakech
Guests can enjoy the spa for a few hours or for several days, following the famous Chenot Method, developed over 45 years by Henri Chenot

One of only five hotels in the world to have a Chenot Spa, the facility at Selman Marrakech offers a new approach to regaining rhythm and balance for mind and body. The 1,200m2 spa is reminiscent of a traditional Turkish bath and includes seven treatment rooms, four hydrotherapy rooms, a hydro-massage pool, two heated outdoor pools, a gym and a spa boutique. Guests can enjoy the spa for a few hours or for several days, following the famous Chenot Method, developed over 45 years by Henri Chenot.

With nearly 50 years of research, the Chenot Method is the scientific and practical framework of the work over the course of the programmes. The success of the method lies in the research-driven approach to the diagnostics and to the way treatments are carefully inter-woven, seamlessly layered and thoughtfully connected. Synergy and connection are the key tenants of the concept.

The spa programmes can take place over two to three days, based on individual assessment. Personalised treatment plans will target specific issues such as anxiety, fatigue and weight, amongst others. Alongside the treatments, a specific diet is created and Chenot diet, built around light food such as fruits, vegetables and animal protein, is served in Selman’s restaurants in order to assist the detoxification process.

The spa also offers traditional rituals such as the classic black soap scrub with a Hammam, and a detoxifying Rhassoul natural mineral clay wrap.

Selman Arabians

Guests can visit the stud farm and meet the international prize-winning horses

Selman Marrakech is unlike any other luxury hotel, thanks to the thoroughbred Arabian horses that it houses. Guests can visit the stud farm and meet the international prize-winning horses. The owners are driven by a real passion for the Arabian breed, one of the oldest and most noble horse breeds in the world.

The stables are fit for a king, also designed by Garcia like the hotel itself. Grooms delight in showing off the beautiful horses and the Andalusian architecture of the stables.

Selman Marrakech, along with the School of Equestrian Arts of Marrakech, hosts dressage activities, liberty experiences and equestrian shows within the hotel grounds. Guests will have the chance to watch young artists train, as the hotel gives free access to the school to youngsters eager to devote themselves to their passion. The School of Equestrian Arts of Marrakech focuses on the promotion of the Berber and Arab breeds, as emblematic horses of Morocco, and to the training of young Moroccans in the disciplines of classical dressage, aerobatics and liberty.
