Victoria, Australia’s southernmost state, is awash with an array of captivating cities and sights that make it well worth adding to your itinerary if you’re planning a lavish escape down under.

Melbourne, the state capital, is renowned for its urban charm and offers an eclectic arts scene, world-class dining, and historic architecture – but while it might be the best known destination Victoria has to offer, it certainly isn’t the only one that’s deserving of your time.

Besides bustling metropolitan cities like Melbourne, the state boasts a plethora of idyllic towns that are ideal for a relaxing break. Beyond the city, Victoria’s landscape gradually melds into picturesque wine regions like the Yarra Valley, where you can visit rolling vineyards to indulge in tours and wine tastings, and decadent gourmet dining options abound.

The Great Ocean Road, a scenic coastal drive, offers breathtaking views of rugged cliffs, pristine beaches, and the iconic Twelve Apostles, making it a bucket list essential for nature enthusiasts. The serene rainforests of the Dandenong Ranges and  the sprawling wilderness of Wilsons Promontory are also musts.

For a step back in time, the gold rush towns of Ballarat and Bendigo offer a glimpse into Australia’s rich history with their well-preserved architecture and engaging museums, while adrenaline junkies and active types can explore the ski slopes of Mount Buller in winter or hike through the Grampians’ dramatic landscapes year-round.

Whatever you’re hoping to get out of your Australian getaway, Victoria has got it all. All you need now is some lavish accommodation to see you through the experience in style. Here, we take a look at four of the coolest and most sophisticated hotels in Victoria that make great bases from which to explore.
