Located in the storied Prinsenhof van Brugge, The Burgundy occupies what was once the favoured residence of the Burgundian dukes. In the 15th century, this estate was transformed into a grand complex featuring living quarters, guest rooms, a library, a donjon, pleasure gardens with a zoo, and an expansive bathhouse – and, renowned for their lavishness and unparalleled self- indulgence, the Burgundian dukes turned the Princes’ Court into a significant hub of political, economic, and cultural influence.

Adding to its fascinating history, the residence once featured a tower where the current staircase now stands. The building served as a taxation centre, where the dukes received taxes on imported goods arriving from both northern and southern Europe, and this historical function is reflected in the name of the street itself – Ontvangersstraat, which means “the receiving location”. Today, The Burgundy continues to honour this extraordinary legacy, offering guests a unique opportunity to step back into history while enjoying a cosy and charming retreat.
