1st July 2024, marks the 125th anniversary of the magnificent five-star, Grande Dame hotel, The Landmark London in Marylebone, originally named, Great Central Hotel. The historic railway hotel will celebrate in quintessentially British style, with a series of special activations, from an exceptional £125 set menu for two, a new afternoon tea available for 125 days, and a dedicated 125th anniversary suite package, set to surprise and delight guests visiting the luxury hotel this summer.

125 years of the Winter Garden restaurant

The Landmark London’s illustrious legacy includes all the marks of greatness including an opening ceremony with members of the Royal Family; a charity event for St. Mary’s Hospital proceeding Alexander Flemings discovery of penicillin; a “Welcome Back from Prison” breakfast for the Suffragettes with Emmeline Pankhurst, and the M19 debriefing of legendary British Lieutenant Airey Neave, which were all held in hotel’s beautiful Winter Garden.

Set under the hotel’s grand eight-storey stunning glass atrium and iconic palm trees, the Winter Garden, a AA Rosette restaurant, offers one of London’s most memorable dining experiences. For the 125th anniversary, guests are invited to enjoy a special three-course set menu, celebrating the best of British seasonal produce and sustainable practices, using locally sourced produce. The 125 years set menu, available from 1st July to 6th August, priced at £125 for two people, including a glass of English sparkling Nyetimber Brut each; is inspired by original dishes, ingredients, and cooking styles from the first Great Central Hotel menu, showcasing the evolution of food over the last 125 years.

Diners can expect to feast on appetisers such as warm pressed Gressingham duck, with fennel purée, star anise, orange and toasted brioche, or salad of globe artichoke and fine green beans, with quail eggs, chicory, walnuts and truffle dressing. For main course, the selection of dishes will include the likes of slow-cooked short rib of beef, crushed new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli and Chantenay carrots; poached fillets of lemon sole, mousseline potato, samphire and ‘Véronique sauce’, or Vol-Au-Vent, served with green and white asparagus, peas, caper and chervil sauce.

To finish, guests will have the opportunity to choose from a range of puddings created by head pastry chef Mauro di Lieto, winner of Bake Off: The Professionals 2023. Opt for a classic selection of British cheeses, a vegan sherry trifle, a peach and white chocolate baked Alaska, with lemon verbena sauce, or a traditional chilled rice pudding to finish.

125 days of afternoon tea

Launching on Monday 1st July for 125 days, The Landmark London’s award-winning afternoon tea, created by Di Lieto, will have a 125th anniversary makeover, featuring the special logo on some of the pastries. 

Available in the stunning Winter Garden restaurant, served beneath the elegant high palms in the hotel’s famous atrium, guests will enjoy a selection of delicious sandwiches, freshly baked lemon and blueberry scones, and special afternoon tea delights to mark the occasion. Beautifully presented, guests will experience the hand-crafted English strawberry and custard tartlet, with elderflower Chantilly; Valrhona chocolate and peanut opera, with banana crémeux; choux with salted pistachio cream and black cherry compote, and peach and lemon pavlova with raspberry ganache and almond cream.

Priced at £70 per person, guests will be served unlimited teas from the varied menu and have the option to toast 125 years with a glass of English sparkling Nyetimber Brut (£83) or Nyetimber Rosé (£93).

Velodrome cocktail

For those passing by, staying or dining throughout July, guests are invited to visit the hotel for a Velodrome cocktail (a blend of butterfly pea infused gin, oolong cordial, lime, and vanilla, topped with Champagne and a lavender/citrus foam), served in the recently refurbished Champagne Bar adorned with English roses, specially curated by award winning London florist, Mary Jane Vaughan, the Mirror Bar, or Great Central Pub by Matt Fletcher.

Priced at £12.50, the Velodrome cocktail is a tribute to the hotel’s rich history, where in its early days, a velodrome graced its rooftop. The Velodrome cocktail promises a journey through time in every sip, celebrating the legacy of this iconic establishment.

Steeped in a longstanding heritage of excellence, the hotel originally opened on the 1st July 1899 when rooms cost a mere three-and-sixpence a night, and has established standards of luxury and magnificence ever since. With close association to the nearby Marylebone station, the hotel became one of the most significant railway hotels of its time. Designed around a vast courtyard which allowed light and air into all the bedrooms, it remains a unique London destination, proudly celebrating 125 years this July.
