Leading adventure tour operator and recently certified B Corp, Wild Frontiers, has revealed their top trending travel destinations for 2025.

Against a backdrop of overtourism, Brits are opting for less-crowded, more affordable alternatives to established tourism hotspots. The list includes six lesser-known tourist destinations which the travel experts believe will see a surge in popularity in 2025, from Kyrgyzstan to Armenia.

Kyrgyzstan: Visit the Mountains of Heaven

Often overshadowed by its more well-trodden neighbours on the Silk Road, experts have predicted that Kyrgyzstan will be Central Asia’s top trending gem for 2025. Kyrgyzstan is the perfect destination for the adventurous traveller with its breathtaking scenery making it perfect for exploring. Wild Frontiers has experienced a 55 per cent increase in Kyrgyzstan bookings compared to this time last year, and worldwide Google searches for ‘holidays to Kyrgyzstan’ have increased by 21 per cent in the last quarter.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: The rising star of The Balkans

A less crowded alternative to Dubrovnik in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina is being heralded as the rising star of The Balkans for 2025. In 2023, the nation welcomed 1.7 million tourists with visa-free travel, marking a 17.3 per cent increase from the previous year, with significant contributions to the local economy. Not only that, but Wild Frontiers has seen a 70 per cent increase in bookings since last year for The Balkans.

It offers a unique blend of cultures, historical significance, and outstanding landscapes, including the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Stari Most bridge in Mostar, and the untouched nature of the Dinaric Alps, truly offering something for each kind of traveller.

Armenia: The new discovery next door

Neighbouring Georgia has been incredibly popular over the last few years, but now Armenia is emerging as a must-visit destination with a rich cultural tapestry and awe-inspiring landscapes. In 2025, it’s expected to be one of the fastest-growing spots for cultural tourism, with Wild Frontiers revealing bookings for Armenia are already up by 20%. Travellers can fully immerse in its ancient Christian heritage, marvel at sacred monasteries, and trek through dramatic mountain scenery.

Wild Frontiers travel expert Kenny Tieberghien said: “For higher chances of seeing the impressive backdrop of Mt Ararat from virtually anywhere in the city, visit in cooler months such as British winter time with less haze blocking the view (or right after a rainy storm). Don’t forget your mosquito spray for those forest walks though, consider yourself warned!”.

Nepal: The gateway to culture and nature

Nepal is expected to be a highlight of 2025 for travellers looking to explore both natural beauty and rich cultural history. Wild Frontiers report that they have seen a 55 per cent increase in bookings compared to last year, and this destination is perfect for those seeking sustainable tourism and immersive experiences in local communities.

Tieberghien said: “We’re really excited about Nepal in 2025 as it has so much to offer a variety of travellers. There is lots of cultural appeal and chances to spend time in remote rural communities and learn about traditional crafts. Our Mustang Valley itinerary explores an area that was off-limits to tourists for many years, and takes you right off the tourist trail, without missing out on the highlights. For those looking for a trekking experience that’s a little different, our Alternative Annapurna Sanctuary trek offers a route that explores quieter parts of the region.”
