Vail Resorts have announced exciting new plans to spend in the region of $115m on improvements at its nine luxury ski areas in time for the 2015-16 winter season, pushing the resort operator’s five-year mountain investments past the $500m barrier.
The centrepiece of the investment for the upcoming season is the $50m project linking Vail Resorts’ Canyons and Park City resorts in Utah and in the process creating the largest ski resort in the United States with over 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. The new combined mega resort will be branded Park City and carry the tagline ‘There is only one. Park City’.
The project marks one of the largest single capital improvement projects in ski area history, according to Vail Resorts.
“We are honoured to have the community’s support as we unveil the new Park City brand,” said Park City’s chief operating officer, Bill Rock.
He added: “The tag line ‘There is only one’ is perfect because there is no place like Park City. The town is already universally celebrated as one of the best ski destinations in the world and now will be home to the largest ski resort in the United States.
“We should all be proud of this mountain and this community as we invite the world to experience the combined resort during the upcoming 2015-16 winter season.”
The new eight-passenger Quicksilver gondola, which will run from the Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift at Canyons, will make the physical link between the two formerly independent resorts.
Park City will also see the development of a new 500-seat restaurant as part of the $50m expansion project. Located at the base of the Silverlode Lift, the new eatery will be named Miners Camp. In addition, booking a cabin in Park City is also a wonderful way to experience the idyllic mountain retreat and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
Other improvements at Park City include upgrading the King Con and Motherlode lifts, updating the Summit House restaurant, expanding Red Pine Lodge, widening some trails and increasing snowmaking.
Vail Resorts has also confirmed plans to upgrade Vail Mountain’s Avanti Express lift into a six-seat chair, expand snowmaking at Beaver Creek and Breckenridge, and upgrade rooms at its Keystone Lodge and Spa.
