Velaa Private Island houses some of the newest hi-tech water sport toys and equipment, from flyboarding and hoverboarding, to electric foil surf boards and the latest tandem jetovator, as well as a complete range of exciting towables for children and families to enjoy.
Guests can choose to venture out for big game fishing or a snorkelling trip around an untouched reef or opt to experience an authentic Maldivian Batheli boat cruise or enjoy a lavish lunch on a deserted island followed by dolphin watching at sunset. The sport
Velaa’s sports and fitness facilities include the Maldives’s only covered tennis court, as well as a squash court, padel court, climbing wall, a state of the art ‘Technogym’ and even a football pitch. Personal yoga and meditation sessions are also available to guests, held in the elevated yoga pavilion, a private garden or on the beach.
Designed by José María Olazábal, renowned for his short game prowess, Velaa Golf Academy by Olazábal is a unique golfing experience available exclusively at Velaa. The studio offers one-on-one tuition with PGA professionals aided by the latest swing analysis technology and is also equipped with a Trackman simulator to enhance the golf session. Velaa has recently introduced night golf, which brings a visual and sensory twist to the usual activity of golf by daylight. With the regular visual aspect of golf being compromised, the holes, flags and golf balls light up for definition.
The secret world
The untouched Noonu atoll is home to numerous exotic dive sites featuring shark cleaning stations, dramatic swim-throughs, and elusive eagle rays. At Velaa, a dedicated marine biology team oversees the development of the largest coral restoration programme in the Maldives, and guests can arrange an immersive tour of the coral garden as well as discover the fascinating hidden-gems located within the house reef. Velaa’s well-equipped dive shop offers PADI certification from beginner through to dive master levels and a range of Scubapro equipment.
The ship
Velaa Private Island is home to one of the fastest yachts of its kind in the Maldives; Yacht Rania. Unquestionably the most exhilarating way to explore the waters of the Indian Ocean, the yacht further affirms the island’s dedication to fulfilling every guest’s desire for a holiday of a lifetime. Designed with speed, space and style in mind, the 60-foot Yacht Rania is complete with two engines and boasts travel speeds of up to 34 knots; rivalling the energy and power of a speedboat.
Setting Rania apart from others, it can comfortably host up to 10 guests for a day trip on its front and back sun deck – and with guests’ comfort always a priority, it comes complete with a state-of-the-art front retractable roof. For adrenaline junkies, the yacht’s moving platform at the back, the hydraulic platform, allows space for a jet ski, enabling guests to be left to their own devices whilst they explore the waters, or for divers to be pulled up with ease.
